International Dance Festival@Silicon Valley announces its dates for June, 2018. Now is the time to get it on your calendar! The Holiday Season sweeps in soon; your visions of sugar plums, candied yams, turkey, pies…may take your attention away from planning the Greatest Possible Dance Adventure: IDF@SV Season 7.

Remember: a great ballerina may still be a beginner at tap dance. She could take Audreyanne Covarrubias’ tap class and have the most amazing time.

So many wonderful events in I’DF@SV 2017. You don’t want to miss it, and we don’t want to miss you. Come to the Full Day of Dance©, enjoy Tap, Contemporary, Pilates, Line Dances, and Mexican Folclorico classes. The flyer with all the Full Day details is right there at the top of this paragraph. You will enjoy every minute. It’s your time to try something new. Absolutely devoted to ballet? Try Elisabeth Kindler-Abali’s contemporary class. Lissi was trained in Germany in both ballet and contemporary techniques.  It is extremely rare now for a ballet company not to have contemporary works in its repertory. You will learn more about your body, find your center, acquire expressive ways to move. Ready for something rhythmic and colorful? We’ve got it! Tap, Lines, Folclorico. Pilates mat class will get you ready for all the other classes. You will find your strength without any strain. Your mind will lead your muscles. You breathe more deeply, stand taller, you will feel GREAT.

When you come to Full Day of Dance©, be sure to stick around for the FREE COFFEE TASTING, 1;30-2:30 p.m. It’s sponsored by DON FRANCISCO COFFEE. Take time to get to know the other participants and talk with the artist/teachers. We’ll pour Organic coffees by Don Francisco. Relax and then rev up for the afternoon classes: Line Dances with Etta Walton and Mexican Folclorico with Arturo Magaña. I’m excited just writing about them!

Perhaps you are a devotee of Bharatanatyam, a serious, classical dance form of India. Remember that laughter is part of the sacred stories behind the dances. Try the Physical Comedy workshop. You will discover new ways to move and find humor inside & out. Walk into walls! Fall down funny! Slap and be slapped! FULL DAY OF DANCE©: June 24, IDF@SV 2017

Here’s the Full Day of Dance© for the International Dance Festival@Silicon Valley 2017.
As in previous seasons, IDF@SV brings you the BEST artists who are also GREAT teachers.
Back to back, open Master Classes; each is one hour long; all are mixed levels.
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a short time out between classes.
FREE coffee tasting & treats during the mid-day break.
Tap—taught by Audreyanne Delgado-Covarrubias, a great tapper & great tap teacher
Pilates mat–taught by Amity Johnson, she looks like TinkerBell but your abs will know you were there with her
Contemporary—taught by Elisabeth Kindler-Abali, visiting artist from Berlin, Germany, dynamic, thrilling technique and repertory
Electric Line Dances—Etta Walton, adorable, so much fun–I always do this one
Mexican Folklorico—first time we’ve offered it, taught by Arturo Magana, Artistic Director of Grupo Folklorico Colibri, this will be amazing and beautiful.

Where did the time go?! The International Dance Festival@Silicon Valley 2015 was an amazing joy ride of dance energy. The dancers put their hearts into learning new choreography and creating new dances. Three performances: the Festival Preview Salsa, the Choreo-cubator© Showcase, and the crowning glory of the Festival Concert. Seven Master Classes on the Full Day of Dance© and intensive workshops through the week in Choreography, Classical Chinese, Contemporary, Dunham, and Salsa. IDF@SV FESTIVAL CONCERT TODAY!

The International Dance Festival@Silicon Valley presents the FESTIVAL CONCERT, today, Aug. 16, 3 p.m. It is at the Mountain View Masonic Center, 890 Church St., corner of Church & Franklin, in Mountain View, CA, 94041. Don’t miss the beauty and fun of this concert! Dance styles include: Bharatanatyam, choreographed by Shilpa Torvi; Classical Chinese ribbon dance, choreographed by Ann Woo; Contemporary dance, choreographed by Leslie Friedman; Salsa, choreographed by Leanne Rinelli; Tap choreographed by Audreyanne Covarrubias. Tickets: $15 general/$10 for over 65 or under 10 years of age. $25 sponsor ticket receives preferred seating and includes a $10, tax deductible donation to The Lively Foundation, the not for profit presenter of IDF@SV. thThe program fees for IDF@SV are set to make the joys of dancing in the Festival accessible to everyone. Full & partial scholarships are available. Deadline for applications is June 30. Here is a list of fees for all classes and events. Early Bird cut off date is July 10, 2015, in all categories. FESTIVAL PREVIEW:  Sunday, AUGUST 9, Features 2 drop-in classes, Afro-Haitian/Dunham Technique, and Cuban Salsa. No partner needed. FREE COFFEE TASTING PRESENTED BY GAVINA GOURMET COFFEE, FREE SALSA PERFORMANCE LED BY SENSUOUS, FABULOUS  SALSA-ISTA, LEANNE RINELLI.

M2F© INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS: MON-FRI, AUGUST 10-14, practice technique & learn repertory in Classical Chinese Dance, Contemporary Dance, Cuban Salsa, Afro-Haitian/Dunham Tech, and the all new Choreo-Cubator© which is your opportunity to create or polish your own dance. Classical Chinese Dance is offered in two classes: one for ages 12-14, one for mid-teens to any adult age. M2F© workshops are best for intermediate to advanced/professional dancers. Time to Dance! Time to Shine! Scholarships for Your Art

 

BeingACatIDF@SV, 2015,Scholarship application form is below. Deadline for us to receive your application is June 30, 2015. That will give us time to review your information and reply. There are full and partial scholarships. Festival Dates: M2F© workshops: 8/10-8/14; Full Day of Dance© 8/15; Festival Concert: 8/16.

ADDITIONAL AID is available in the form of:

1)  FREE Home Stays in the charming, residential neighborhood near our center. Within walking distance for all classes and rehearsals.                                                                                                          2)  FRIENDLY FRIEND FEE: bring a friend with you and both of you receive a discounted rate              3)  EARLY BIRD FEE:  You will still have time to apply with the Early Bird fee, another big discount. So, if you receive a partial scholarship, you can save more by getting the Early Bird rate, too.

INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL@SV: HUGE Success

The only time there were empty seats was when Etta Walton invited everyone up to do Line dances with her. The Festival Concert was a tremendous success. The art of Leslie Arbogast, Audreyanne Covarrubias & Megan Ivey, Sohini Ray, Leanne Rinelli, Etta Walton truly captivated everyone. Hats off to the Festival Dancers: Kerry Aradhya, Myu Campbell, Vanessa Nudd Chapman, Julie Van Gelder. The Festival Concert was a brilliant finale to the intensive week of dancing that preceded it. Audience members, Festival Dancers, and artist/teachers all were asking about plans for next year before this Concert had even ended.
