The Full Day of Dance© is the BEST way to do something you love and try something new. Five classes: all open to mixed levels, each one hour long, fifteen minute break between each class. FULL DAY OF DANCE© Meets from 10:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Each class one hour long. Fifteen minutes between classes; lunch break 12:25 – 1: 15 p.m. All five classes $70. Classes include Jazz, 10 a.m.; Pilates mat, 11:15 a.m.; Tap, 1:15 p.m.; Contemporary Ballet, 2:30 p.m.; Line dances, 3:45 – 4: 45 p.m. Five movement classes, back to back, all mixed levels. Charlotte Bronte: The Bats of Haworth

The Lively Foundation is proud to announce that the Browning Society of San Francisco, a prominent literary and theater society, has invited our Artistic Director, Leslie Friedman to make a presentation on January 12, 1:00 p.m., the Sequoias, 1400 Geary, San Francisco. Admission is free. A reception with cake, coffee, tea follows the talk.

Leslie will show the video of her dance, THE BATS OF HAWORTH, which is accompanied by spoken excerpts from the writings of Charlotte Bronte, and music of Chopin. The dance is a trio about the Bronte sisters. This year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Emily Bronte, author of Wuthering Heights. The presentation will include a talk about the sisters and their art as well as about the choreography. Dr. Friedman choreographed and danced in this work.

The presentation is free and open to the public, Jan. 12, 1:00 p.m., at the Sequoias, 1400 Geary Blvd., San Francisco. International Dance Festival@Silicon Valley announces its dates for June, 2018. Now is the time to get it on your calendar! The Holiday Season sweeps in soon; your visions of sugar plums, candied yams, turkey, pies…may take your attention away from planning the Greatest Possible Dance Adventure: IDF@SV Season 7.

Workshops, classes, performance opportunities are available for advanced/professional dancers, for those who want to try a class or two, & for beginners.

Remember: a great ballerina may still be a beginner at tap dance. She could take Audreyanne Covarrubias’ tap class and have the most amazing time.

Choreography workshop, technique workshops, Physical Comedy, and the Full Day of Dance©; all this AND performances by the gifted artists who will bring the best in dance to our ever growing audience. Don’t miss this!

CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETITION at IDF@SV 2017

INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL@SILICON VALLEY invites choreographers to submit a work in ANY dance form. Dances should be no more than 8 minutes long. Choreographers must be adults ( 18 years & up & up). Deadline for submissions is May 20. $25 entrance fee.

Do you intend to perform it in the Bay Area on dates close to IDF@SV (preference for dances which will not be seen on other concert dates near dates of the Festival a preference, NOT an automatic out.

AWARDS: 1st prize winner will perform on the Festival Concert program with acclaimed artists, July 1, 3 p.m. 2nd & 3rd prize winners will perform in Showcase Performance, June 30, 6 p.m. These performances are in Mountain View and both are open to the public. 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners are offered free time & space to rehearse and will receive cash honoraria.

Ballet for Adults: Great New Class!

The Lively Foundation is proud to announce a new class, Adult Ballet. The class meets at 7 p.m. at 890 Church St., the Mountain View Masonic Center, Mountain View, CA. The class will be taught by Leslie Friedman. Dr. Friedman, Artistic Director of The Lively Foundation, has experience teaching professional dancers and beginners. She taught the Ballet Rambert, London, England; national ballets of Poland, the Cairo National Ballet, and dancers at the three Chinese ballets/academies in Beijing, Shenyang, and Shanghai, among others. She focuses on good technique to protect your body and the love of movement. Her goal is for everyone of whatever experience and training to enjoy themselves dancing.

Dr. Friedman has performed to great acclaim around the world. The US State Dept. sponsored her tours with host countries in India, Russia, China, Spain, Hungary, Romania, Poland, and many other countries.

The class meets Tuesday evenings, 7:00-8:15. Dancers may buy a 10 class class card for $130 or drop in for $15 per class. There must be 4 class card holders to keep going.

Lively Friends Meet the Merolinis

MerolaGrp SharonAnn A Lively group of Friends of The Lively Foundation enjoyed an evening of gorgeous singing at the San Francisco Opera House, Aug. 20. The eleven Lively individuals came from Marin, San Francisco, Pacifica, Mountain View, and San Jose. The Merola Opera program has given Lively tickets for its friends to attend Merola performances each of the last 7 summers. Merola is a training program for singers on their way to international fame. The program gives them many opportunities and by doing so gives the rest of us the opportunity to hear great music sung by stars. Previous “Merolini” have included Ruth Ann Swenson, Thomas Hampson, Carol Van Ness, Patrick Summers, Brian Asawa, and many others beginning brilliant careers. This summer rather than a full length opera, eleven Lively friends were treated to the Merola Grand Finale, a gala performance of arias and ensembles accompanied by full orchestra. The voices were splendid. We shall all keep our programs in order to follow the careers of our favorites. Keep in touch with Lively for future great events.

Contemporary Dance Tech & Rep with Leslie Friedman

Start with an hour of technique to warm up, then learn repertory created especially for the Festival Concert, rehearse, perform! The Festival Concert is open to the public, a fully professional performance featuring performances by the acclaimed professional artists leading the Festival and YOU! Dancers in this workshop also have the opportunity to perform In Leslie Friedman’s Lively Foundation performances in the coming season. (You may take the workshop even if you do not want to perform.) Leslie Friedman is the legendary artist whose international performances were historic “firsts” for an American dancer. First to perform, choreograph, teach with joint US/host country sponsorship in many countries including China, Russia, India, Poland, Hungary, Egypt and more.

Our Festival Concert features exquisite dances by artists of classical Indian Bharatanatyam and Kathak, Tap Dance by Audreyanne Covarrubias & Megan Ivey, Contemporary ballet by Leslie Friedman, and a chance to join Etta Walton in her Electric Line Dances. The Festival welcomes advanced & professional dancers AND complete beginners, ages from mid-teens to any adult age. The Physical Comedy workshop welcomes ages 10 and up…and up!
