The San Francisco Youth Orchestra celebrates its 30th anniversary during the 2010-2011 season. Music lovers of all ages have a wonderful opportunity to hear great music performed with the skill, zest, and energy of musicians aged 12-21 in just two more concerts this season.
Sunday, March 13, 2 p.m. at the Davies Symphony Hall the SFS Youth Orchestra, led by Donato Cabrera, presents a program which includes the height of Classicism in Haydn’s Symphony No. 84, E flat maj. as well as classics of the twentieth century by Webern, Honegger, and Britten.
These musicians may be young, but their talent and musicality are remarkable. Their concerts would still be exceptional if they were all decades older. Audiences never need to make allowances for their youth as they hear programs that would challenge any players and enlighten any listeners.
The Youth Orchestra players rehearse in Davies Hall, receive coaching from members of the San Francisco Symphony, and have the chance to meet SFS Music Director & Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. Resident Conductor Donato Cabrera has led the YO since Sept., 2009.
This Hedgehog Highlight salutes the Youth Orchestra and reminds readers that tickets are still available for March 13th. Call: 415/864-6000.
The closing concert of the season will be May 15, 2011.
